About GIS Layers

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is designed to store, analyze and display geographically represented information. For the Saline County Study, several GIS data sets, or layers, have been collected from various state and federal sources. Where a desired layer (see Program Design and Outcomes within the Saline County Study Proposal) is not available from these sources, or the data is incomplete or inadequate, CARES has developed new GIS layers. CARES has made this information available to the citizens of Saline County through our Internet Map Server (IMS). GIS data sets are usually very large, so be patient with the viewer!
