The meeting began with members listing their five thoughts and five solutions regarding the Saline County Study. After everyone had their say--and some thoughts were consolidated--we had a list of over forty distinct concerns. The general discussion that was involved in the process of members giving their thoughts consumed a large part of the meeting. Although no action was taken, the process was beneficial in further helping members get to know each other.
Tim Simmons was elected Chair and Spokesperson for the Steering Committee. David Perkins moved that 'Saline County Study' be adopted as the official name of the project. The motion quickly passed. Mark Belwood was elected Recorder for the Steering Committee. It was stated that Ron Ott had requested that he be allowed to resign from the Steering Committee because of lack of time to serve. The resignation was accepted.
The issue of whether to have a retreat was then discussed. Some members questioned whether a retreat was necessary. Others pointed out the need to see first hand the decision support that would be available--especially the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology. Patti Carr moved that we have the retreat. The motion passed. David Perkins moved that we have the retreat at or near Columbia. The motion passed.
The retreat was scheduled for August 24 and August 25 with details to be handled by the Management Team. The Management Team is to send out a letter when the details have been finalized.
