Chairman Mark Belwood called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.  Minutes were approved as mailed.

Mark announced the St. Louis Kettering workshop would be April 26-28.  Cynthia Crawford will attend part of this conference.  Wendy Pettersen attended the one held in Kansas City.

The issue of student involvement in a town hall meeting about land use will be tabled until next month.

Mark has attended five of the nine town hall meetings to date and report all have gone well although only two people attended the Slater meeting.  They will be holding a second meeting and hopefully more will attend then. Mark noted several comments were made about the abundance of wildlife and the damage they cause crops.

Cynthia reported on the L.I.F.E. classes.  The April class is meeting with eight participants.  It would be nice to have a few more people attend, but we are also spending energy promoting the town hall meetings.  From the March L.I.F.E. class interest was generated in working on the welfare of children in Saline County.

Mark was to have been interviewed live on a new KRLI Friday noon show, but that was rescheduled to a future date.

Cynthia reported Saline County is now one of three counties in the State to have its own set of Challenge Course equipment funded in part by the United Way campaign.  She and Darrin have received training and will work with the Extension Council to set up procedures for use of the equipment.

Mark asked how best to report notes Wendy has taken at the town hall meetings.  It was decided he would make a summary and post that on the web page.  Mark asked that we think about the procedure we will want to follow in formulating our recommendation to the commission.  It was agreed that only the study committee members would meet.   Extension staff, university partners, and commissioners would not be involved in the recommendation process.  Richard suggested we ask Wendy Pettersen to record for us to allow all study members to participate fully.  Mark will ask Anna Cox to have an initial report of the ranking surveys to be mailed to study members prior to our next meeting, Monday, May 9, 7:00 p.m.

Meeting adjourned 8:15 p.m.   Some members planned to attend a portion of the Marshall town hall meeting.

 Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Borgman, recorder
