Minutes
Saline County Fellowship Steering Committee
December 14, 1999

Chair Cheryl Zimny called the third meeting of the Saline County Fellowship Steering Committee to order at approximately 10:10 AM on Tuesday, December 14, 1999 in the Saline County Extension Center.

Present were:

Cheryl Zimny
John Stouffer
Darin Starr
Gerry Snapp
Mary Ann Gilpin
Cynthia Crawford
Mark Belwood
Robert Ashford

Not present:

Jim Seigfreid
Kathy Miller
Roy Hunter
Mike Dillon
Ruthie Cramer

The minutes of the November 17 meeting were read and approved as read.

Mary Ann had brought several sizes of the L.I.F.E. shirts to the meeting. Those present selected the shirt size that they would need. Mary Ann also brought a draft version of the logo that is to be sewn onto the shirts. Everyone thought the logo looked very nice with the exception that the green lettering did not stand out well against the blue background. The group suggested using either yellow or white thread for the lettering rather than green. The group asked Mary Ann to consult with Jeannette concerning whether to use white or yellow thread and then to go ahead and make the decision for the group.

A leadership lending library (to be housed in the Saline County Extension Center) was next discussed. The idea of the library is to help extend the learning process initiated by the Saline County L.I.F.E. sessions. Items in the library (which may include video and audio as well as printed material) will be loaned on a 30-day-limit basis. Cynthia and Robert each offered to donate some material to the library. Robert motioned and Mark seconded that we start such a lending library and that $250 of L.I.F.E. funds be appropriated for purchasing lending material. The motion passed.

Cynthia next reported on yesterday's meeting of the content providers for the L.I.F.E. sessions. She ran through the content schedule for each of the three days of a L.I.F.E. session. That content schedule is an attachment to these minutes. Robert moved and Mary Ann seconded that we approve the content. The motion passed.

Next, Cynthia reviewed a list of mentor responsibilities that had been developed at yesterday's content provider meeting. The mentor responsibility list is an attachment to these minutes. The group thought that the list was right on target.

Robert presented a check for $500 from the Excel program. A picture was taken of Robert presenting the check to co-chair Cheryl Zimny.

Cynthia reported that the fee for the L.I.F.E. program can be tax deductible as a professional development experience. The catch is that professional development experiences must exceed 2% of your adjusted gross income to result in any actual dollar effect on your taxes.

Mary Ann reported that most clubs want to wait until after the New Year to have a program on Saline County L.I.F.E. Cynthia said that she will develop a PowerPoint presentation (also available as an overhead presentation) to use for such presentations.

Mark reported that he had contacted both KMMO and KRLI. KMMO had suggested having Saline County L.I.F.E. for a Community Spotlight program in January. KRLI said they would run public service announcements (PSAs). It was suggested that Saline County L.I.F.E. could fill several Community Spotlight programs. Mark is to contact KMMO again regarding this possibility. His is also to write a PSA for use by radio stations. He will obtain the approval of the recruiting chair (Mary Ann) prior to distributing the PSA.

Cynthia announced that the next meeting of the content providers will be 2 PM January 20. The next meeting of the L.I.F.E. Steering Committee was set for 9 AM January 21 at the Saline County Extension Center.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 11:30 AM.
