Ecologists describe Saline County as an AgroEcosystem, a complex mixture of pastures, farm fields, businesses, home sites, natural habitats and cities and towns. Early explorers noted the openness of the land with trees adjoining the creeks. Although farms have replaced most of the prairie, views from the hilltops are reminiscent of the prairie landscape.
