In southern Saline County, McAllister Springs still runs through its shallow channel. The water pools up in the spring, runs down the channel, disappears underground and then reappears near the banks of the Blackwater River where it flows into the river. McAllister Springs was probably the most important resort in Saline County prior to modern times. The hotel ruins, where many a mineral bath was taken, are still visible. Residents say a dance hall was located nearby on the highway. The land is currently owned by a citizen of the County.
