Notice is hereby given that the Saline County Study Group will conduct a meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 1999 at the new Saline County Extension Office at the southwest corner of Odell and Arrow Streets in Marshall.

Approval of minutes of June 28 meeting

Odor Committee Report--Vince Buck (Chair)

Members: Vince Buck (chair), Richard Pemberton, Chris Barnett, Darin Starr, Marc Harris

Issues assigned to Committee:

--Secure odor plume model

--Review "state of the art" technical solutions to odor problems

  • Report on John Lory's and Charles Fulhage's analysis of the BION system for treating animal manure

Options Committee Report--Richard Clemens (Chair)

Members: Richard Clemens (chair), Mark Belwood, Tom Johnson, Darin Starr, John Lory, Mike Dillon, Wayne McReynolds

Issues assigned to Options Committee:

--Identify legal options and other options available to bring about desired change on county level; do this within 6 months

  • Update on Virtual Training Initiative (VTI) project; report on Iowa field trip
  • Discuss plans for Saline County Study Retreat in September; appoint planning committee to finalize arrangements and agenda
  • Announce that Land Use Public Issues Forum has been moved from October 18 to November 22;  discuss if a December meeting of the Study should be scheduled
  • Discuss applying for grant from Sustainable Development Challenge Grant Program--Tom Johnson to explain program

Communications Committee Report--LeAnn Haling (Chair)

Members: LeAnn Haling (chair & secretary), Roy Hunter, Chris Fulcher, Kathy Miller, John Stouffer, Becky Plattner, Gerry Snapp, John Lory, Ruthie Cramer

Issues assigned to Committee:

--Study committee needs education on how to present issues to the county

--Citizen education on what has happened to date: Schools, civic groups, government

  • Report on presentation given to Marshall Rotary Club--Darin Starr
  • Report on status of placing printed Study reports in county libraries

Photography Project Committee Report—Mike Dillon (Chair)

Members: Mike Dillon (chair), Cynthia Crawford (secretary), Roy Hunter, Gerry Snapp, Chris Fulcher, Mark Belwood

Issue assigned to Photography Committee:

-- Develop a photography portfolio for the Study and come up with ways to use it to promote the purposes of the Study

  • Report on the status of the photography project

Scenarios Committee Report—Kathy Borgman (Chair)

Members: Kathy Borgman (chair), Cynthia Crawford (secretary), Anna Cox, Vincent Burke, Roy Hunter, Tom Johnson, John Stouffer, Mark Belwood

Issues assigned to Scenarios Committee:

--Review data collected and fill in missing pieces

--Set up scenario proposal committee to generate scenarios of interest to the committee

  • Report: Meeting with Phil Tate of the Department of Economic Development regarding funding for Target Industries Pilot Program—From those in attendance: Tom Johnson, Richard Pemberton, Roy Hunter, Mark Belwood
  • Report on July 22 meeting of Scenarios committee
