Good Morning:

The next meeting of the Saline County Study group is a particularly important one:

Monday evening, August 23, 1999 Pit Stop Catered BBQ dinner will be in place at 6 p.m. Also homemade ice cream thanks to Ruthie and Roy

We hope to begin the Issues Forum process as soon after 6:30 as possible.

Habilitation Center Board Room (just when we had the researchers used to coming to the Extension Center) Extra space is needed to serve dinner and for the Issues Forum

Please RSVP your meal reservation to the Extension Center by August 19:

886-6908 or e-mail Cynthia at crawfordc@missouri.edu

We will not have a business meeting this evening, but will put 100% of our time and energy into a Public Issues Forum. There are three primary objectives:

*To experience the process of a Public Issues Forum and see if it would be helpful to develop a public issues forum around key issues of the Saline County study.

*To focus on a topic related to the Saline County Study mission - Governing America: Our Choices, Our Challenge. Who should be the decision-makers about issues related to the Saline County study?

*Experience a deliberative process, rather than debate

The University will be bringing in two highly trained facilitators for the Issues Forum. It is important that we have a good turnout and that you are heard. Please make every effort to attend.

It would be a real plus if you can review the enclosed booklet prior to the 23rd.

Thank you for your leadership to the Saline County Study. We hope to see you Monday evening.

Sincerely,

John C. Stouffer Mike Dillon Richard Pemberton Presiding Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner
