Notice of open meeting

Notice is hereby given that the Saline County Study Group will conduct a meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 26, 1999 at the new Saline County Extension Office at the southwest corner of Odell and Arrow Streets in Marshall.

Issue assigned to Commission:
--Make recommendations for a county web site/presence

• Use tax vote report

Issues assigned to Committee:
--Secure odor plume model
--Review "state of the art" technical solutions to odor problems

• Final Report: CAFO effect on land values—Mubarak Hamed

Members: LeAnn Haling (chair & secretary), Roy Hunter, Chris Fulcher, Kathy Miller, John Stouffer, Becky Plattner, Gerry Snapp, John Lory, Ruthie Cramer
Issues assigned to Committee:
--Study committee needs education on how to present issues to the county
--Citizen education on what has happened to date: Schools, civic groups, government

• Schedule more presentations?

• Discuss whether a potential part-time job with Extension would conflict with Mark Belwood’s responsibilities as a Steering Committee member.—Cynthia Crawford to explain job

Issue assigned to Photography Committee:
-- Develop a photography portfolio for the Study and come up with ways to use it to promote the purposes of the Study

Issues assigned to Scenarios Committee:
--Review data collected and fill in missing pieces
--Set up scenario proposal committee to generate scenarios of interest to the committee

• Announce that Anna Cox is taking the place of Kathy Miller on the committee
• Announce that Mark Belwood is now an official member of the committee
• Report on April 21 Scenarios Committee meeting
• Final Report: The Economic Importance of Health Care in Saline County—Kathy Miller & Tom Johnson
• Report on progress of retail trade analysis—Anna Cox
• Report: Status of Department of Economic Development Target Industries Pilot Program—Tom Johnson
• Revisit County Parks Idea—Vinnie Burke—Postponed until May

Issues assigned to Options Committee:
--Identify legal options and other options available to bring about desired change on county level; do this within 6 months

• Report on April 8 meeting
• General discussion of progress of Study to date and where the Study should head from here

• Ask for suggestions for May 24 meeting. Current items on the agenda are:

• Revisit County Parks Idea—Vinnie Burke
